Protecting Your Loved Ones: A Critical Alert on Medicare Scams | Affinity Capital

Jul 23, 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to elder care education, we want to raise awareness about a growing scam targeting seniors and their families—fraudulent Medicare hospice enrollments. Whether you’re looking out for yourself or a family member, understanding this risk is essential to safeguarding both health and financial well-being.

Here’s how these scams typically work:

  • Scammers contact seniors via phone calls, texts, emails, fake ads, or even in-person visits.
  • They offer seemingly “free” gifts or in-home services, such as cooking, cleaning, protein shakes, medical equipment, or groceries.
  • In exchange, they ask for your Medicare Number and request that you sign documents.
  • Unbeknownst to you, this authorizes fraudulent hospice care enrollment, allowing scammers to bill Medicare for services you never agreed to.

Our advice: Never share your Medicare Number or sign any paperwork for free services. Always verify the legitimacy of any offer, and if you suspect fraud, report it immediately.

At Affinity Capital, protecting your financial security and your family’s health is our top priority. Stay informed, stay vigilant, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about elder care risks or financial planning related to healthcare.
